Hey guys - new to the site here.

My name is Luke and I live in Tallahassee, Florida.

I am totally new to smoking meat with only some fish smoking experience.

I was thinking about learning a few things, then getting some gear and starting from scratch. I don't even have a smoker at the house.

The unofficial goal is to be smoking by the start of NASCAR season (about a month from now).

HMMM, this screen name sounds familer?? You are not another Florida Sportsman member, are you?

Welcome to the group, Luke. We're glad to have you. Check out Jeff's free 5-day ecourse to get started. Post any questions and we'll get you all the help you need. Good luck!

Cheers,
Brian

Yep. Been on the FS Forum for years. Good to see you Flash. Went to put your name in as my referral source but didn't want to just put "Flash"

Welcome to the SMF, do your research, pick out a smoker and I see no problem to be going in a month, just remember it's a learning process so don't get disappointed, start with some forgiving meats first, Butts etc.

That was probably smart. They may not have let you in

Greetings Atticus and welcome to the SMF. There are several other fellow Floridians here so I suspect they will be around soon. I'm over in Seagrove Beach (about half way between Destin and Panama City). I've been on the SMF for several years and I can tell you it's the best smoking forum on the internet ... bar none. Great bunch of folks and lots of experience.

And by the way, I'd suggest that one of the best ways to get started is to first of all, as has already been suggested, take Jeff's five day ecourse. It's straight forward and packed with great information. In the mean time, be looking around at smokers. First decide if you want to go with a straight stick/charcoal burner or propane/wood or perhaps and electric. Then do you want a vertical or off set model. Lots of decisions and lots of fun. We're here to help with questions. But with only a month until NASCAR season, to get started expeditiously, I'd suggest really getting into Jeff's ecourse and take a good look at the GOSM (lots of info on the fourum ..... use the search function). That's just one way to get up to speed fairly quick. There are others but this path should work (imho). Good luck!!

Glad you've joined us at SMF. This is a fun place with great members who are very friendly and helpful. Enjoy the ride.

Welcome to the forum Luke. As a couple others have suggested do the 5 day ecourse, it is well worth the time lots of great info, especailly for us beginners. Don't be afraid to ask questions, the people on this site have a weath of knowlege and are happy to share it, this site as well as sitting around the smoker are an addiction.
Welcome aboard Travis
