1st try at smoking!

This is my first attempt at smoking... I am using my trusty Weber Kettle with the Smokenator 1000. I bought 4 racks of Pork ribs yesterday and a beef chuck roast. I rubbed them down last night with Jeff's rub and re-rubbed them this morning before putting them on the grill. I am using Wicked Good briquettes on top of Wicked Good lump, also hickory chunks and alder chips. It has been about 2 and a half hours since I started and all is well!! I have filled the water tray up with Sam Adams Cream Stout a couple of times and it seems to be working well. I have 1 before shot and the last one is 2 1/2 hours into it... don't know if I can wait much longer!!!

Looks good man. I hope they turned out. I just did my first smoke for new years and it turned out pretty good. The Tritip I did was AWESOME and the ribs were just OK. Probably could have cooked them a little more. I made some rookie mistakes my first smoke though. Can't wait to hear how your turned out.

I think you are a confirmed smokeaholic... congrats!

Good work!! I like the conversion for the kettle grill into a smoker! Seems to work pretty good. How was the heat in there?

Finally I'm back!! Thanks to Verizon I had no internet from my last post 'til now!!!

The ribs and the beef turned out GREAT! I pulled the ribs at 6 hours (didn't take the temp) and the beef roast at 145 degrees. Jeff's BBQ sauce was served with the meat and everyone loved it. I also made some garlic redskin potatoes (smashed) and my homemade coleslaw (AWESOME recipe if anyone's interested!!). Unfortunately, I was upset about the internet and trying to cook and I got NO PICTURES of the finished product!!!!!!!! Oh well, there's always next time. The meat was great, the rub and BBQ sauce was great, and the Smokenator worked GREAT on the Weber!!

I've always taken my chuck roast to 200º so I can pull it, but I am finding out there are different beef roast and some do not pull as well as others. Will have to try one at 145º and see how I like it. Looks darn good PDT_Armataz_01_37.gif
