Verifying Temperature

Hi, all. This is my first post. I have a new masterbuilt 7 in 1 smoker (propane) that I have used twice. I'm happy with it. My question concerns verifying the accuracy of the temperature guage that came with the unit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I! Stop into the Roll Call fourm and give us an intro, we love that stuff! It's kinda like meeting your date's parents 'round here LOL!

Anyway, go get a decent digital unit and use that to check the gauge. Chances are it's off by enough to be a problem, but SOME do work. You will have to keep it's interior parts clean tho.

Yer gonna want the digital to check meat temps anyway- it's required BBQ gear.

Even if the guage is accurate, it probably is not mounted anywhere to be much help. Need to know the temp at the grate level..........not up in the top.

Hi, be sure and test the accuracy of any new digital thermo. If it is the meat probe type, put the probe tip in boiling water and it should read 212 degrees, varying on altitude. It will drop 1 degree for each 1,000 ft. above sea level. I'll stop here, I don't want to bog you down with TMI. Best of luck my friend.

i also baught a new digital thermo and used on my turkey the alarm went off in two hours i knew this had to be wrong so i checked it with my other one and it was only at 140 degrees how do i get it to work right.

Unless it has a way to calibrate it, I would take it back.
