Newbie saying "hi"

Hi, all! Thought I'd best post something...don't want to be termed "lurker". LOL

A little about myself...I love smokin' and grillin'! Have a Hasty Bake and a Smokin' Tex. Love them both. Grew up cooking. My mom was a home ec teacher and she started me in the kitchen at age 5. That's LOTS of years that I've been cooking. My dad was the grill master. Every weekend he fired up his old CharBroil and smoked turkeys, roasts, ribs, whatever sounded good for the week. Guess that's where I got my start for loving the grill and smoking.

Guess I'm old fashioned in a sense, as I cook all the time - comfort food, gourmet meals, and of course grilling and smoking. The smoking is usually saved for the weekends.

Besides my love of cooking, I teach obedience classes (for dogs, ladies, not men!), do therapy dog work, am a moderator on the pet cancer support group on Delphi, am the facilitator for the Tulsa Pet Loss Support Group, I'm a Reiki Master/Teacher (healing energy), and study metaphysics. I love Harleys and have been riding (mainly as the passenger) since before it was the "in" thing to do, and I've had Rottweilers for almost 25 years.

That's me in a nutshell. Can't wait to become acquainted with everyone and start learning more!

Welcome Malea -

Glad to have you aboard! It will be interesting to see where your smoking and Reiki teaching combine. Enjoy the forum!

Welcome. Nice to have you on board. Sounds like you already have some good experience. I think you will enjoy yourself here and have a lot of fun.

One thing to remember. . . . we love to see pictures, so keep that old camera right beside your smoker. icon_smile.gif

Welcome in, Malea. We're glad you're here! It looks like you folks live right close to us over here out a bit east. I look forward to you adventures on the smoker.

Tell me about your Harley, please. icon_cool.gif

Thanks for the welcome, Kev! Yep, B.A. is only about a 35 minute drive for me on the Creek Tpk. Have some friends and relatives there, so I'm over there pretty often.

I saw that Jeff's in Pretty Water, which is only about a mile and a half south of where I live. Nice to know that there are some folks in the near vicinity.

Have a '99 Heritage Springer (styled after a '48 Harley). It's a beaut, but don't get to ride much.

Really looking forward to learning more. One can never have too much knowledge.

Forgot to tell everyone that my favorite woods to smoke with are apple, cherry, pecan and hickory. Mulberry's not bad either. Like to mix the fruitwoods with the hardwoods sometimes, and also like the pecan/hickory combination.

Hi, Skip! Nice to meet you. Oregon coast is beautiful. Lucky you!

I'll get the camera out. Never have thought to take pictures at the grill or smoker, but I'll try to post something soon.

Welcome to the forum Malea!! I know you don't specialize in "training men" but m wife has been trying to train me for years.....have any suggestions for her....I am potty trained, but don't pick up after myself, still make messes in the kitchen when I cook, and leave the newspaper where ever I've finished reading it.

Hi there, Debi! Ah, Connecticut! Actually, anywhere in New England...I LOVE it there. Take a 2 week trip up every year. Spend one week in Ossining, NY with an author friend and another week in Amherst, MA with an antiques dealer friend. Haven't found an area that I don't like, with the exception of NYC! LOL

Well, I guess the only way I could combine smoking and Reiki is to put lots of energy into the smoke to penetrate the meat well!

Looking forward to all this forum has to offer!

Well, Goose, aren't you a hoot! Glad you're at least potty trained! Only suggestion I have to offer your wife is to put a pinch collar on you. Tell her it's like power steering! However, from my own personal experience, men and cats are untrainable...

Being from SC you must have some great smokin' genes. There's some great barbeque in SC. One of the greatest compliments I've ever received was from a lady that grew up in SC. I'd made pulled pulled pork with Carolina red sauce for a 50th anniversary party. She asked if I was from SC, because she hadn't had anything that good since she left the area. Doesn't get any better than that!

Try to behave yourself! And tell your wife if I have any brainstorms on training you that I'll let her know.

Welcome Malea. You and Jeff should be able to smell each others smoke.
AHA! That's the smoke I've been smelling when there's a good south wind.

welcome to the family Malea. you sure are busy. Gonna find time to smoke?
Absolutely, Dingle! Smoking a turkey and a fresh ham for Thanksgiving. I'll always find time to smoke.

See you're from NY. Have friends in Ossining and Elizaville. Was in Big Indian at a lodge for a few days back in June. Absolutely love it there!
