I'm from North Dakota and recently bought a Masterbuilt electric smoker. I enjoy hunting and fishing and cooking what I catch/shoot. I'm pretty new to smoking so I'm just learning and excited about it. I've been smoking some deer jerky today, almost done and excited to see how it turns out.

Welcome to SMF, Ole! I smoke with a MES too and am also fairly new to all this. Hanging out around here will get you to be more proficient in no time. Folks here are always ready to answer questions so don't be shy.

I am glad you joined us. I don't think there is any question, that someone here can't answer. Hope your jerky turns out good. (or is that, "goot")

Thanks you all for the warm welcome! Looking forward to chatting with you guys. My jerky didn't turn out the best. I think I used too much smoke and made the jerky too thick but I have another batch in the fridge for tomorrow. I used Mesquite today and think I'll use Hickory tomorrow. My venison is ground and didn't use a jerky shooter which I will tomorrow. I also initially set the temp to 140, as stated in the recipe book, but after reading on here I'll use 190 tomorrow. If anyone has any tips for me it would be greatly appreciated.

Debi,

Haven't tried the Ecourse yet, maybe that'll kill some time at work tomorrow. lol

BigArm's,

And by the way, when you find Lena, send her baby sister this way.

Hey BigArm's,

I see on your profile you make Juniper furniture. I've been thinking about making wood/log furniture over the winter. I'll have to get the tools sometime after deer season.

Welcome to the SMF. Looks like you got some smoke in your blood. How about some pics of your smoker? QViews?

Welcome from a fellow newbie and MES user. There are some great people here and lots of folks who use the MES, so if you have questions, fire away!
