Need Help!?!

Ok I know that should already know better, but I guess I dont. I just a brand new Super Longhorn smoker and had a big group of people over for dinner last night. I unloaded the smoker and threw on a pork shoulder and a beef tenderloin. I let it all smoke over a Mesqite wood fire at 250 degees for about 8 hours and when I served it, everything tasted like plastic and i had to send out for Pizza. What did i do wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You forgot to season itPDT_Armataz_01_32.gif

Probably needed to burn some smoke and high heat through the new smoker to burn off the excess oils and such.

Plus, make sure you slather the shoulder with mustard and then a good rub. I recommend Jeff's Famous Rub available on this site.

Sound like it wasn't seasoned and something still had packing in it.

Welcome to the SMF. Sounds like they said, the smoker was not seasoned and cooked off properly. You should have got a fire going after wiping it down with a towel and then spray "Pam" all inside the cooking chamber. Get it hot.....maybe 300 degrees for and hour or two with some smoking chips or chunk of hickory or mesquite to "flavor up the smoker". Let sit for about 12 hours before the next cook. Try this and like mom,"Debi" said to check for any unwrapped parts you cooked.

Before you try to season it correctly, make sure there is no type of packing/tape in the smoker.

Yeah paint doesn't smell like plastic somewhere there's a piece of protective plastic lurking about!

Thaks for all the help! I had a fire going all day after I sprayed the inside of the smoker, so I hope this works. I never did find any plastic inside, so I hope that it was just something they sprayed inside of it. Thanks again for the help!
