Hello all, I just purchased a Weber 2820 Smokey Mountain Cooker/Smoker. Holy cow are the temps steady and the burntimes long in this thing. I have used it twice now and it feels like cheating it is so easy to use. For example, last night at 5:30 PM I put about 3/4 of a chimney of unlit kingsford in my coal pan and added two chimneys of lit coals. I smoked a couple of butts that I took off at 1:45 this AM. I took the meat out and left everything the same, it is noon here now and the temp in the smoker is rock solid at 240 degrees right now. It has been burning the same charcoal at steady temps in the smoking range for 18 hours and counting. I am amazed. I wonder how long it is going to maintain the temp? I will find out and post it here.

Wow, that's amazing! I wish I could get that kinda burn time with my CG!

I use more than 3/4 chimney but the large big green egg amazes me also on burn time. I smoked for 18 hours straight without refilling.

It's a nice thing eh?

Take care,

Brian

Actually that is alot of coals, but for that long and maintaining that temp, dam good.

Sounds about right to me maybe a bit more than I'd use in my ECB but maintainig without tending for 18 hours??? That's great!

Did you mean 2 chimney's unlit and 3/4 chimney lit? You just have to love the WSM. The only limiting factor at all is capacity for a BIG smoke or larger items. Great smoker, glad to see another SMF'er w/ one.
