Howdy.

I'm Forty Rod, a 65 year old, retired financial advisor, and published novelist. I am a long-time member of SASS and an avid reader and researcher of the history of our country.

I have been married to the same very patient woman for over 42 years and have two children and a grandson...an an adopted "son", a dog named Peanut.

Hobbies are pre-1900 guns and history, friends, eating, and (now that I'm thoroughly retired from a "real" job) working on my black belt in Gu Foff.

I probably won't contibute much here because I'm an 'eater', not a 'cooker', but I'm always on the prowl for good recipes that even I can make without destoying the kitchen, cookware, or ingredients..

Welcome Forty-Rod, we have alot to offer here, glad you found us. Now, the first thing you need to do is try smokin' some real Q, then I promise, you'll be hooked for the rest of your life!

"...working on my black belt in Gu Foff" LMAO! So am I, but I am not retired yet...

Hey 40-Rod, glad to see that you made it to SMF! Even "eaters" got to have a place to go.

Since you're a "published author", (still great reading, BTW) you want the job as our "Teller of Tall Tales?"

Now that you're 'thoroughly retired from a "real" job' you ought to take up smoking meats and other neat stuff. When you get good at it you can host a pot-luck with your GLB friends and really impress 'em!

I guess I ought to give you fair warning - Lousy Longshot hides out here sometimes too.

Enjoy,

'Satch

Welcome to the SMF. You're just a stones throw from me, I'm in Whittier. I really like to read about all the background things that went on during the Civil War. Mighty interesting how Spain, France, and England fit into the whole picture. You have plenty of territory to prowl around on this site.

Welcome to SMF -Rod. Great people here.

Now's the time to look to the future..............I see you smoke'n a 12# prime rib on a traeger............and yes you will have a smile!!!

You'll love this hobby of smoke'n, it's easy and relax'n. Kick your feet up and grab a cold drink and help us entertain each other.

Resisit all you want, but you'll be sucked into the never ending quest for the best BBQ possible...much like all of us. A lot of Gu Foff can be practiced while tending a smoker. Enjoy and welcome.
