Thread Starter
Just a newbie checking in. Earlier today I posted a question on Treager grills.
Any info on them will be welcome. I'm out here in Utah, like to cook, but have never smoked. Anxious to get started. I tried some meat from a treager this weekend and was very impressed, maybe even hooked on this smoking thing. Any and all advice appreciated. First of all looking for advice on building or buying a smoker. Treager expensive, necessary????? You tell me.

First off welcome to SMF!!! You should make it a priority to sign up for the 5 day e-course. Loads of helpful information... As far as grills its all user prefrence. Gas, electric, charcoal, how much space you have. How much you want to be able to cook at once. The main thing is research then decied. Many of helpful folks on here there will be more along soon..

Welcome to SMF, and hope you enjoy. Friendly folks here and lots of answers.

As for smokers, there are lots of different ones used by the folks here. Like I said in reply to your other post, the smoker you select is personal preference. I an a stickburner and have no problem with wood supply, something to think about if thinking about a stickburner.
Elcheapo brinkman smokers do a good job also. Just need to figure out which heat source would be the best and easiest for you to use and availability of such. Hope this helps some and enjoy some good Q.

Welcome to SMF phinfan! As was stated previously, smoker choice is a personal thing. I based my decision on reputation (it's always good to hear someone else's opinion), size, type of fuel, price and of course, how cool it looks in my back yard... biggrin.gif

I am a lump charcoal fan, with stick burning tendencies... the CharGriller lets me do both. It also has ample grill area for large smokes. I knew that the CG had some design flaws, but nothing that couldn't be corrected. I love to tinker, so that need was filled also. I am very happy with my decisioin, hopefully you will be too!

Good luck and once again, welcome aboard!

Welcome to the forum. As you can see this place is full of friendly folks willing to help. Shop around and look at different smokers. Any question that you may pose here will likely be answered by someone who has the smoker you had a question on. I run a Bradley electric myself, but enjoy learning and seeing all types and sizes produce the finest in food. Most of all have fun.
