I'm rediscovering the simple goodness of smoking after many years of hustle and bustle and propane grilled steaks. I'm using a plain ol' Brinkmann charcoal smoker for now, but I'm seriously thinking about building a brick pit. I think I've found a place where I can learn a lot!

welcome to SMF. i too converted from a LP grill to a smoker. my bottle of propane ran out, and it was the old style. was going to cost too much (to me) to convert it to the new style, so i built a smoker.

if you have any questions, just ask. also, i recommend you sign up for jeff's 5-day e-course. it is full of good info.

welcome to smf & a brick pit is a great idea & lots of fun- just be wary of certain mexican(imported) bricks- they tend to explode(from experience). we did an inground fire pit lined w/ cheap mexi red brick- was like grenades going off.

Welcome to the SMF,Beaver Trapper! On this site we can cook up some good tasting grub.I have learned alot from this forum and I've been grilling and smoking for 25 years. They still come up with something I have not tried and it's fun to do. Some of the recipes are out of this world. My wife says that my cooking has improved in the last five months and she wants more meat smoked. You'll love it here. Hide and watch and you'll learn.
