Dick Bullard.....Illinois. about 1 season into smoking.....Currently have (1) El Cheapo Brinkman, (1) 4 1/2' Brinkman rectangular water smoker (don't recall it's name) and (1) "Mustang Electric Smoker" bought from Sportman's Guide Catalog......I have had to modify all of them.......my latest is the Mustang..have already modified the heater to acheive enough heat to smoke and have drilled the front door with vent holes to get some kind of air flow...it is an insulated unit, but with no provisions for airflow except for a stack on top........the instructions that it came with I could't believe....they said to never exceed 175 degree F. and the most ideal smoking temp was approx. 150 degrees F. so I am still very much learning............probably get my best results from my El Cheapo with a 1600 watt heater in it!!!

Welcome aboard the SMF Dick! Glad you found us. That is some instruction manual that came with the Mustang......whoever wrote it I have to wonder.....what were they smoking?

Welcome aboard. You came to the right place. Plenty of experience here to get your questions answered. Keep us posted on your smokes and remember the PICS.

Welcome to SMF Dick. Looks like we need to hook you up with a stick burner and a gasser unit then you can claim to have one of each!!!

Most electrics are designed primarily for cold smoking that's why they are factory set for around 150* but with mods you can get them up higher. Check out the forum for Electric smokers.

Enjoy!!
