He smoked a Boston Butt, using a brine of:

1 gal water
12 oz. pickling salt
8 oz of molasses

He stated those ingredients were the best for dissolving in cold water.
He then smoked it in a homemade terracotta smoker.
Here is the rub he used:

1 teaspoon whole cumin seed
1 teaspoon whole fennel seed
1 teaspoon whole coriander
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon paprika

grounded up in a small hand held coffee bean grinder and sifted onto the meat.

It looked really good, he did a great job.

Did anyone know that May was National BBQ Month?

lol.....I found out he worked in an office, didnt have anything to do with food, and a co-worker talked him into sending a tape of his cooking. They got him a show right away.

He is OK, I just catch him once in awhile, just too see what helpful hints he has.

AB is a staple in the Meowey household. He IS however an acquired taste.

Take care, have fun, and do good!

Ah man, yes we love Alton here. I have learned some cool things from him but can understand why others may not agree. But I tend to run a bit off of center myself so that may explain things

To me Alton is the Bill Nye of the culinary world. He not only shows you how but explains why things work together in a more scientific approach.

Alton's great

I have found that men like Alton and women do not at least in this family and extended family. The husbands that cook like Alton and teir wives do not.

He does give you good info, and info on WHY you do something. I always like to know why you do something, and his show is about the only one that tells you that. Yes he is a little weird sometimes (and sometimes VERY weird), but it's better than a lot of shows out there.

I loved Justin Wilson! Incredibly entertaining show! As for Alton Brown…read his history. He was a cook turned cinematographer, and did all his own shows! I like his weird sense of humor and his analytical approach to culinary feats. Best show on Food Network! I have learned tons from himicon_cool.gif

I'll take Alton over Rachel Ray and Emril any day....... *yeesh*icon_rolleyes.gif
