Hi All,
I had wanted to make pulled pork today but could not find a Boston Butt per se. The one store had pork shoulder, is that the same thing? Also, they had a picnic, wasn't sure what would be good for pulled pork.

Any help for a slightly confused smoker in training?

Thanks.

Chris

look for one labeled as "butt". it might not say boston on it. here, one store has boston butt, and another has butt. samae thing as far as i know. the butt comes from the shoulder. maybe dutch will stop by and explain it better than i can.

The Butt is a part of the shoulder and if I understand my pork shoulder correctly, when the Butt is removed the remaining piece is the picnic. All can be used to make pulled pork. The Butt is preferred because of the relative ease of cooking due to its size and fat content.

Thanks Rodger,
I may try tomorrow depending on family schedule. Is the pork roughly 1.5 hour per pound?

Thanks.

Chris

Hi Chris,
Just saw your post, thanks for the repy. I was getting confused because they also had things like "center-cut pork roast" and such.

Thanks for the info you and Rodger provided.

Cheers.

Chris
