Happy New Year!

Thread Starter
I am a fairly new member and although I have already posted on other areas of this website, I just noticed this "new member" thread so thought I would sound off. First of all, I just wanted to thank everyone for all the great advice I have received thus far. This is an amazing site!

About me: I am originally from San Diego (see my screen name) and currently reside in West Los Angeles. I recently purchased an electric Old Smokey after being a Barbecue fan for years. I just love to eat, really. Last year I took a trip to Kansas City for a wedding and discovered a place near Arrowhead Stadium called "LC'S" where I enjoyed a burned end sandwich. All I can say is WOW. I am now trying to recreate that moment with my new smoker. So far I have smoked a Tri-Tip, 2 Briskets and tonight I'm trying a Whole Chicken. I really enjoy it immensely.

If there are any other members out there who are either a) Charger fans or b) Old Smokey electric owners, I would love to hear from you to share some thoughts and advice.

Best wishes and Happy New Year!

Welcome to SMF ChargerPower!!! Here is a link to an excellent post on making "true" burnt ends just like they do in KC. Hope it helps you on your quest.

True Burnt Ends

I am in the process of saving up points to re-smoke and follow this procedure outlined by Scott this Spring. I am up to either 3 or 4 so the first big Spring cook I'll have two or three more points and it will be on. I hope it works as well freezing and thawing the points, but I wanted to make a big batch with this method. I don't know why the freezing would hurt anything so I figured I would try it out.

Re: Happy New Year!

Welcome to SMF. I was wondering if you were going to post here. Burnt ends are by far my favorite. I don't know if you'll be able to get that really, really rich smoky flavor like a true burnt end is supposed to have, but you'll probably get close. And even if you don't, it'll still be great.

I hear what you're saying regarding the true smoke flavor in the electric OS, since it's more of a pressure cooker than anything, but I think I can muster up somethng pretty delicious.

Based on some advice I just received on a separate thread, I am going to try to turn some Jalapenos into Chipotles on my next smoke.

I love this site!
