.....is it feasable to use a cast iron wood chip box, and just place it down by the cooking element, and just turn off the automated wood inserter?

The reason I'm asking is that I can't find an Electric Smoker that I like the size and features as well as Bradley, but I just don't want to be paying $1 an hour for wood when I smoke.

Any input would be appreciated.

hello hello,
i will want to ask questions about this unit after you have used it for a few ,months....

i have been LOOKING at the bradley...
i cant get enough positive feedback for butts and briskets
with bradley----

my first question will be---
does master built have separate heater for their chip tray???

I can answer that before it even arrives, from looking at the pics, no. No seperate element.

I chose the Masterbuilt because I want a (somewhat) set it and forget it digital smoker, and for the Bradley digital it was more than twice as much. Also, I didn't want to have to spend $1 an hour on fancy wood biscuits. (That's an extra $7-10 just to smoke a turkey!)

I guess I'll use it for a few weeks and then post a review here. There have been complaints about the Masterbuilt, but most of the complaints were about no air vent and no door latch, which has been added to the new 2007 models.
