I thought I had posted earlier, but I can't see it, so here goes.

I had an 18" Weber Smokey Mountain on order from Amazon, but I couldn't wait. So I cancelled that, went to the local BBQ store, bought one, and now I've got it all put together and lit. Not going to cook anything today, but I want to see how accurate the temp gauge is and burn off anything inside.

Cheers,
Mark.

Mark the stock temp gauge is most likely off.I would get another and make sure it checks doing a boiling water test.Your location would help in getting better answers

Welcome to the forum Mark!  I love my WSM and understand your enthusiasm!  I would go with a thermometer that can measure temp at grate level instead at the lid.  Glad you joined us!

Good morning and welcome to the forum from another hot and humid September day here in East Texas, and the best site on the web.   Lots of great people with tons of information on just about everything.
