Well, don't exactly know which forum should  I post up on, so,this cast iron so is a dutch oven .. Usually we do these on the fir pit out back, but, the smoker and charcoal grill .. We have alot of useful coals ,,We have had a couple in the past, seems the Rome brand works out the best ... When we run the smoker for 5 hrs or more, the coals burn another 5 hrs or so .. Gonna make a few different ones and maybe some chicken pot pie or some Shepard's pie  in my new cast iron skillet ..

We spun up 2 chickens and have some good coals ..

just put em on

these came out nice

all quartered up

This one seems to be the best one we have .. use it in winter on the fire pit .. thought we would make some sammies on leftover coals ..going to make a ham and cheese and a pizza sammie today ...

tomorrow maybe a couple different ones, possibly a quesadilla  with some of that rotisserie chicken..

maybe an apple pie hobo pie ...

first  one

your basic grilled cheese

nice ...

ham and cheese -- round 2

double ham and cheese round 3

pizza sammie next .. pepperoni and cheese

This one was the best I guess .. had to make 3, the neighbors insisted .

Tomorrow may make some chicken quesadillas from the chickens .. also making something else in my new cast iron skillet ..

Tell me what you think ...

If I make some more, will post  up tomorrow ...

Round 2, game day, did a couple pizza , couple of hot dog and couple of hamburger hobo pies

pizza with pepperoni

on grill with some burgers and dogs

done

dogs

and cheese

hot off grill

sliced

burger time

now its  cheese burger

dipped in some mustard ...

some more for the game

was fun for game day .. kick off in 6 minutes

I have had one of them for about 9 years and have never used it. I think I am inspired after seeing all those sandwiches. I have a Panini press that kind of does the same thing and O use it a lot. My wife likes ham, pair and cheddar cheese Paninis, simple as it sounds it's good and I think would work nicely in a pie iron.

Randy,

Randy,
I tried a couple different things for putting on the bread, but butter works the best ..

Thanks Chile ,thanks for the point as well ,, the apple pie was like candy ,, pastry worked good, wasn't; sure if  it would work, but turned out good ..

Yes! I find butter best for pinnis as well. I always had trouble spreading butter on both out sides of the sandwich so I melt the butter and brush it on.
After Thanksgiving try this with the leftovers. Turkey, cranberries, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy. I have been known to put some mayo in there as well, can't imagine a sandwich without mayo. Lol

Randy,

yes, that sounds good .. I was going to make some sloppy joe hobos .. and will do another time
