I have visited this forum many times over the years, and finally decided to open an account.  I have found and utilized a lot of good information here over the years.

I am from Shawnee, OK, lived in Norman, OK for 5 years where I went to school at OU, and moved to the DFW area about 11 years ago after accepting a job. My wife and I built a house in Lantana (between Denton and Flower Mound) about 2 years ago. We love to cook or throw something on the smoker on the weekends...especially during football season.

I started off about 4 years ago with a Weber Smokey Mountain. That smoker worked out great for me, but I was convinced by several people to give an electric smoker a try.  I sold my WSM, and after a lot of research settled on the Smokin-It #2 electric smoker. It has treated me great over the last couple years, but recently I have decided that it has become almost too easy.  There are times when shutting the smoker door, going to sleep, and opening it back up after 6-18 hours is great, but I am also missing the primal feeling of tending to the fire. I have recently been researching off-set stick burning smokers. I thought I had settled on a Lang 36" Original, but after that $1,200 price tag ballooned to almost $1,800 with shipping, I started shopping around. I have been communicating with the people at Texas Longhorn BBQ pits (hate the name :)), and he can build me a 20" smoker with the reverse flow smoke feature for closer to $1,200 delivered. Now I am just trying to convince myself and my wife that it is worth pulling the trigger on.  If anyone has any experience with Texas Longhorn smokers, or has any other advice, I am all ears.

Happy to be on board.

Thanks,

Jeff
