I have been reading a lot here about building a UDS and have learned a lot. It also is apparent that there is on one exact way to build one. I have a few questions for those that have built theirs and especially for the ones that have smoked a lot with theirs. I have seen the method of using a 2" pipe in the bung and the 4 3/4 pipes in the lid. Is one way better than the other? Some guys use the cool, vertical inlet pipes topped with gate valves for their inlets. Is mounting the ball valve horizontally at the bottom of the barrel more efficient as to airflow? What is the preferred distance from the top to mount the two grates? What have you found to be the most accurate dial thermometer to mount on the drum without breaking the bank? What is the best internal thermometer? I don't have a need to be able to remotely monitor temperatures. I know these are a lot of questions but I am ignorant.
