Hello everyone! Hope everyone is having a good day so far!

My name is Trevor, I'm 24 and work as a parts assistant manager at a Chevy car dealership and live in Northern ohio.  I would consider my self a good cook and pretty good at grilling but I have zero experience in smoking.  I've always wanted to, but never pulled the trigger on a smoker to do so.

So last week I was cruising through the local Menards specials and I spotted a labor day weekend deal for the Char Broil Deluxe Electric smoker.  I didn't know to much about that model as I had been lurking on this forum a little and most people enjoyed using the MES line.  I thought "hey why not" and went over and picked it up for 170 dollars after rebates and such, I didnt think that was a bad deal and it would be a good learning experience anyway. So i picked up two 9.5lb pork shoulders, cherry and hickory would chips, and set off to try my hand at smoking.

I unpacked my smoker and seasoned it per the instructions last wednesday, then saturday night at 10 i started to preheat the smoker, and around 11 it was ready to go.  I had previously rubbed the pork down with several spices and some brown sugar mixed in and let it set for about 10 hours.  I put the pork in the smoker at 11 and let it smoke for 15 hours at 245 spraying it with apple cider/rum/apple cider vinegar mix every few hours. At about 2 the next afternoon i pulled the shoulders and threw them into a cooler for a few hours until I was ready to pull them for sandwiches.

They turned out awesome! For being a first time at smoking anything I think they turned out awesome and everyone really enjoyed it for our labor day get together. Wouldn't have been able to do it without this forum! Found a lot of helpful tips and details on here.

Thanks so much!

By the way I was very impressed with the char broil smoker this far.
