Hi everybody, Just joined here after doing a search for smoked burger recipes yesterday. I was pretty much given a master built signiture series smoker. It had never been used, never plugged in. Its model 20071514 I think its the 30 in as the temp only goes to 275, the controller is up front just above the door. It has all the parts to it. I was super excited since I have wanted a electric smoker after seeing Steve Raichlen's show and he has used electric smokers. Its a set it and forget type of smoking and I don't have to stand by to babysit it so much.

I do know its going to take some learning to get it down I do know how to smoke, I used a crude made over charcoal grill I made into a smoker and smoked a turkey and it turned out perfect, so I have the basic's its just getting this thing dialed in.

I have been reading in the electric smokers forum for tips and help and what I have found so far don't look promising for this smoker but hope its just the newer models have issue's and not all the masterbuilts are finicky. One thing I did notice is the chip tray seems small, the loader looks like it holds more than the tray will hold. Maybe my eyes are playing with me.

I used it today to attempt smoking some burgers, and used some whiskey barrel chips, the burgers turned out ok, but think I dried them out had alot of smoke flavor. My temp was set at 260, think next time will drop my temp down and go less chips and when the meat hits that done temp pull them out. I want to try other things as well smoked meatloaf, smoked steaks, smoked pork chops, smoked chicken. Hopefully I will get this down to a art.

I have read on the mailbox mod and getting the pellet tray, but right now thats not a option as I am not working so money is tight but plan on looking into more when I get back to work.

Back to forum to do some more reading and what more info I can obtain and look forward to more smoking.

Thanks, been reading all the post in the electric smoker forum, so far I am on page 10 of the hundred of pages there are to read and lots of good info. I noted one mistake I made after some reading I should have left the vent fully open I had half open and think thats where the heavy smoke flavor came from. There is also some stuff I am going to look at on my smoker, the chip try to see how close it is to the burner.

I am going to keep trying till I get it figure out no matter how many failures I have till I get it mastered.
