Can anyone help me out why my 22mm collagen casings from Butcher packer is doing this?? they are a little tougher and the shrinkage is really different. This is a caddie I bought from B&P, it is open in the fridge but have enough humidity that they are not brittle,,, they did dry out one time and become brittle but like I said I put moisture in fridge and no longer a brittle problem,,,

They stuff fine but when I smoke them the do this

Hi Country casing on the Left and My B&P caddie on the Right

The B&P just is out of uniform and stringy looking,,, yes dry out a little more during smoke and the looks,,,, probably a shot in the dark but thought someone may have a trick up their sleeve?? No I have not contacted B&P Yet for any ideas.

DS, I think it looks fine just some different shrinkage. I have bought commercial slim jims etc. with those lines in them ??

I think they look great .  I did hot dogs the other day  in the same size casing ( all I had ) . I smoke them until done , but they shrink up . So I use this " trick " of dipping in boiling water for just a few seconds not long at all . Not sure if this would be a look you want for sticks , just thought I would throw it out there . Before and after pics .

Actually, I like the looks of your B&P Stick. I use B&P and quality has always been spot on. Just different manufacturer's. All casings are not the same.......

Looks ok to me also. It looks more like the true store bought "Slim Jim" casings do to me.  The way they shrink is different, but so is the process as they are a fermented sausage.

DS, morning...  Looks like they dehydrated a bit...   When I use collagen, I take what I need out and stuff...   then I put the remaining casings back in the original package and using the heat bar on my vac sealer, I weld the opening closed...  preserving the natural humidity in the casings...     I do NOT suck the air out of the package...
