Well, I've been tasked with trimming down on my cooking equipment.  My wife wants more room on the deck to actually entertain our guests...imagine that.  Does anyone actually sit on a deck anymore?

Anyways, I currently have a 4 burner gas grill, large offset smoker, and a 36" gas griddle.  I use the gas grill ALL of the time, probably 4 times a week.  The smoker gets used 3-4 times a year, and the griddle is more for novelty really, and the occasional big holiday breakfast.

I'm considering selling my offset and replacing it with a Weber 22" Kettle.  I honestly think I'd get more use out of it and would probably actually smoke more.  The large offset is a booger to get going, especially for 1 butt or 1 rack of ribs.  I will probably also get rid of the griddle and take it to my parents' house.

OK enough rambling....the question!  Should I skip the Weber Kettle and just get a really nice gas grill and do my occasional smoking on a gas grill?  I've had success before, but I do miss the wood and charcoal flavor.  I'm sure I could figure out a way to get some charcoals in a gas grill, just need some direction.  Also, something like the smoke tube for pellets would work I suppose.

What would you do?  Get a Kettle, or invest in a better gas grill?

What about a 14.5 wsm for smoking ?
I thought about it, but I think I'd prefer the Kettle for the ability to also grill with charcoal occasionally.  I just don't tend to use dedicated smokers very often.  Unless you can grill on it?  I dunno!

Keep the Gasser, get rid of the offset and griddle.

Suggest getting the Weber 26" Kettle instead of the 22" to give yourself more room when cooking indirect, maybe look at adding a Slow and Sear to help with long cooks in the kettle, it's not needed but people who use them seem to really like them. You can also look at the Little Griddle which will sit atop the grates on the gasser, so when the need arises you have your outdoor griddle.

I also need to reduce my smoker inventory.  Have two big chief smokers that I have not used for a year plus.  But I love my Weber 22 grill.  Using it more and more. Adding an offset smoker insert to it like a  Slow N Sear, really takes it to a whole new level.

Get a nice weber gas grill. I can keep one burner on, add an aluminum pan of wood pellets and chucks and smoke away. Pretty darn good but obviously not quite the same as an offset however you can set and forget. And you can still use gas grill to direct grill everything else.

My gasser now serving time as a charcoal starter for my 22.5" Kettle and 22.5" WSM.  It has been several years since I used the gasser for grilling.  When it rusts out, I won't be replacing it, but I do like the way the side burner starts the charcoal.  I've got a single propane burner out in the garage that can be modified for the same purpose.

I'll second the recommendation to buy a 26.5" Weber Kettle.  A bit pricier than the 22.5", but man I wish I had one.  I use my Kettle at least twice a week, sometimes daily.  You can do lot with the 22.5", but the 26.5" gives a bit more room for smoking and grilling.

Couldn't wait and bought a 22" in the copper color today. I'm going to replace my burners and grates in the gas grill and keep it going another couple years until I can afford a Weber Spirit.

You need an ECB... I cook ANY dish on my Brinkmann charcoal ECB ..Forget everything you know.. and just go with the flow.. ECB.. I'm bringing it back baby! Like the Mullet! I'm bringing it back! Chicks dig it! Or maybe not.. I'm on the fence there.. we'll see.. [emoji]128556[/emoji]

Ummm,, sell the offset smoker and the gas griddle and may be you can get a smoker-grill combo. This combination equipment will solve your purpose of smoking as well as grilling and it will get you some room in the kitchen!
