Where can I buy smoke sticks? What's the best way to smoke sausage on a traditional shaped smoker?

I've been smoking my sausage on the grates of my smoker, but it's never quite as good as I'd like.  I'm looking for a way to smoke sausage in my barrel smoker and am up for any advice you have to give me.

In the book Great Sausage Recipes and Meat Curing  by Rytek Kutas there are some color photos around page 152.  There they have some pictures of "smoke sticks" which look to be triangular shaped metal bars.  I'm not sure how I'd mount these in my smoker, but they seem to be a better starting place than wooden dowels.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Stainless rods are nice, but kind of expensive. I use 5/8 in. Poplar wood dowels from Lowes. Been using the same ones for 6 years and no problems.

djc, I use stainless steel angle iron ,1/8 inch thick.   Purchased from  Home Depot for a reasonable price.
