I'm smokin' away up here and I'm ready to upgrade my starter unit (a cheap Dyna-Glo offset) to either a Yoder or Traeger pellet smoker. I've heard mixed reviews on both and I'm hoping to get some clarity here.

YS640 - I've read that some folks are having issues with the buttons. Also, there's no rep here in California so if something goes wrong, it might really stink!

Traeger Pro 34 - I've hear that these aren't made that well but they are easier to get and probably easier to fix. I'm not sure.

So, if anyone has ANY advice for me before I plunk down $1k+ I'd really appreciate it! Mostly I smoke pork and fish.

Cheers!

Welcome aboard Franco!

Can't help you with your question, but there are plenty of guys on here with pellet smokers who can.

Good morning and welcome to the forum from a nice hot sunny day here in East Texas, and the best site on the web. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about everything.

Can't answer that one, I'm a stick burner

Welcome to the board. Lots of great info and people on this site.

I have the Traeger Pro 34. I can say that I have been quite happy with my unit over the past year. No issues with it at all. You will hear a lot of complaints about temp swings with the Traeger controllers. Personally I am seeing my controller holding the +- 15 degrees as advertised. I keep up on the cleaning and clean it out between 3-5 cooks, or if I am doing a long smoke I will ensure the pit is cleaned and ready to go.

Although with that said above I like the Yoder's that was the pit I was dead set on. If you have a dealer that carries both that you can go look at I would recommend driving over and seeing both units in person. The Yoder is built like a tank and I have heard nothing but good about them, not as many complaints as I hear about Traeger...... But either one I think you would be pleasantly happy with.

Also I would look at the Timberline version from Traeger as well. Anyways good luck to you and whatever choice you choose.
