Use some tongs next time to put coals in when you want to use minion. They don't always burn even. You may have to rake them after a few hours. You can add a few more then too..

This auto repair place has these 20 gallon drums they use for trash cans.. I wanted to get one but the one mechanic said they have a slight taper to them.. I was bummed out.

Yeah I want to keep it cheap like the mini wsm but the pots that are known to fit are 100$+

Lol very true. If I could find a aluminum pot it may be cheaper but I doubt it.

I'm probably going to give it a shot. I'll still come in well below a 18 wsm. Especially since I'm getting a jumbo joe for 15$

It'll be more for fun more than anything

I have some left over expanded metal I'm going to cut to just lay inside the charcoal basket. Thanks for the advice.

I wanted to flare the expanded metal on the charcoal basket outward like yours is to get more coals in but just did it regular. Gonna make it happen on the jumbo joe.

Just like this.

I actually pulled the pot off and the charcoal basket to clear some of the ash out. It helped a little but I wasn't able to get much out. I'll probably do a few more cooks to really get use to it but I'm definitely think about a ball valve with a BBQ guru.

I use a bbq guru on my silver model smokey joe. I just took off the ash tray from legs and it works great. The blower keeps the ash cover clear. I have also stopped using my coal basket i found with the guru i could load way more coals for a longer smoke. Gotten 10 hours at 250 with no problem and no messing with the coals.

I use Stubs or Royal Oak coals, far less ash then kingsford.

Nice work on your mini!!
