OK, so my MES took a dump last weekend. I believe the control board shorted or something. The digital display still works, just not getting power to the heating element. So, I decided to go a different route.
I was able to score a wood burning stove that appears to have only been used a few times. The plan is to use the stove as the firebox and pipe the smoke/heat into the MES. Picture kind of an offset vertical type of setup.
My concern is that the stove has a catalyst. I don't know much about it other than it is more than likely made out of platinum and/or palladium and probably a bunch of other stuff that I really don't want near my food.
Do I just remove the catalyst and keep moving with the build? Will the stove function properly without it?
Also, if I come directly off the top of the stove with a 90* elbow and straight (horizontal) pipe into the side of the MES, will the stove still draft properly?
Thanks in advance,
Mike
