I have recently purchased this Masterbuilt smoker -
I've tried twice to use my AMPS in it but each time it burns out after less than an hour. I put the AMPS in my GMG and it does just fine for a 6 hour smoke. But in the MES it just keeps burning out in under 30 minutes. I always pull out the chip tray and the tray filler tube on the side. I put the AMPS on top of the shielded heating element and under the water pan.

Where are other folks putting the AMPS in their MES smokers?

So parrot-head how.do you keep it lit while in the smoker. I have a rangemaster smoker(rebranded MES I think) and it doesn't have the wood chip loader so I would have to cut a hole for the mailbox mod.

I light with a propane torch and let it burn a good 5 minutes or more before blowing it out.  I pull my chip loader out about an inch for air flow.

You might need to have some more air flow added if there is no chip loader tube

Should be pretty simple with a hole saw just wanted to avoid it if possible but just can seem to get the amount of smoke I want on low smokes.
