Hello SMF! So I'm a sometime bbq-er living in central Arkansas, recently went kind of BBQ obsessed, decided to join up here.

I've been smoking in a master built electric smoker for a couple years now, a free one my in-laws weren't using. It was all right for a while, but I finally got tired of it after having some great smoked good off my friend's stick burner, and just not liking the comparison to my outdoor crockpot.

Went on a bit of a research rampage trying to find out all I could on affordable charcoal smokers, and by an amazing coincidence found a 18.5" WSM on craigslist for 200$. Had seen nothing but love for the sleek bullet, so I picked it up from him this weekend. Only reason he was getting rid of it was cause he needed a 22" one, and it was in great shape too.

I knew I wouldn't have much time this weekend to fire it up, so I did a quick smoke of some tri-tip roast: https://i.imgur.com/FXdv8bX.jpg
(Dunno how well the forum does image links but oh well). Smoked about an hour and 20 mins with some mesquite at 260ish, then seared it over the gas grill, ended up medium in the middle. My wife and parents raved about it! It was quite juicy, with a good hit of mesquite but not overpowering.

Next time I use it I'll try to keep it a little lower and slower, but it was fairly easy to keep the wsm at a good temp, even coming from someone who's never done much with charcoal. Can't wait to throw some pork shoulder in there - bet it's gonna be the best I've made. Master built electric smoker, it was nice knowing you.

Thanks all! I packed up some of that tri tip for lunch today - man that stuff smelled good! Can't wait to make some more stuff on it
