Hello,

Never used or heard of a smoker in my life until few days ago when someone left out a WSM on the street for free. Picked it up, did alot of research on it and now im excited to use it. Watched many youtube vids, and read forums like here to gather info on how what to do. As for the wsm tried to find out how old it is and on the vent its labled DH, according to the records its from 2004? It still had everything, just needed to replace the grills. Also  there is no thermometer on the cover. Was wondering if I could just use my laser infrared? or just invest in a probe or install on the cover. Anyway, my first attemt on it will be ribs for the 4th july.

good to meet everyone.

Welcome to SMF!  Glad you are here with the street find.  One person's trash is another person's treasure, and believe me, that find is a true treasure!  Is the WSM the 18.5" or 22.5"?  Just wondering.  Grates you can replace easily, buying new ones at HD or Lowes.

I addressed your question about the thermometer in your other thread, but someone on the East Coast may beat me to it when they read this thread from Roll Call.

Enjoy the ribs!

Ray
