I was at the store this morning wanting a pork butt for tacos, the selection was poor and the price as well. My solution chicken legs! Seasoned with Bad Byrons butt rub cooked on the kettle two zone with lump and pecan. Once they were done I spread the coals and finished them off. Served with a little tater salad.

Chicken legs are like meat candy when done right!  Nice work for sure, and yes, the high temp ending works wonders on them!

Richie, 2-zone is coals on one side and cooking/grilling on the other with indirect heat.  Then at the end, spread the coals over the bottom and finish the meats with a high temp

Those look spectacular!  Next time I need to char sear some steaks after smoking, I'll have to remember to make sure there's some chicken parts included.  I haven't had a reason to drag the charcoal grill out in the last few weeks, but those pics are incentive.  Points.

b-one,

I will have to check it out.  My next toy will be a DigiQ for the pit.  I will check out the Cajun Bandit.

The Summit is great, for the money, it is the best built in grill you can get.  We have a outdoor kitchen and the prices are nuts for built in Grills.  The weber is the low end.  Since it is natural gas it is quick and we use it for parties and weeknights.  I do like the rotisserie and the smoke box is good, but not the same as the in terms of flavor.   I also use it for reverse searing meat, I will smoke a steak then sear it off on the grill.

Thanks Gary, pecan and cherry are my go to. Too bad I have neither,it's not to bad to order as long as I don't have a stick burner.
