It's amazing how when I searched for information about using a smoker effectively many links led to this location! I am new to smoking and just purchased a Gen 1 Electric MB 40". I have been using a Redi Chek ET-733 for low and slow grilling/oven finishing; so I figured that would be beneficial smoking two different meats. Don't know much but have already read a lot. I am a pastor to college students and worship leaders so having people at our house is pretty normal. Looking forward to learning the techniques of smoking after spending years learning to grill.

and congratulations on your new smoker!!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes - survived my first smoke today with a 16h 9lb pork shoulder - shredded it tonight and it was awesome! Will be looking on how to better utilize the forums going forward and properly comparing modifications others have made to their MES units. Trying to get the most out of my base unit and will try to see what additional modifications will make things run more smoothly and consistently. Thanks again and looking forward to dialing in the best way to approaching smoking with what I have now and then learning about what will make the process more consistent and enjoyable in the future.
