This is my first post here.  I'm in the process of seasoning my new 30" Gen 1 smoker right now.  This is the first MES I've owned.

Everything seems to be working well.  I have a question about the display on the RF remote, though.  So, I see that the display on the top of the unit alternates between temp set, smoker temp and time remaining.  On my RF remote. I only see the temp set and the remaining time, it doesn't show the actual smoker temp.  If I press the Meat Probe temp button on the remote, I see the probe temp flash by, alternating with another temp.  The meat probe temp agrees with the one on the control display, but the 2nd temp that alternates is something else.  It shows a very low temp, say around 20 degrees when the meat probe is showing 255 degrees.

What does that 2nd temp display represent?  Is it supposed to be the actual smoker temp?  Is there something wrong with my RF remote, or is this what I should be seeing?

I hate to reply to my own post, but maybe my initial question wasn't clear.  Let me put it a different way:

Is it possible to see the current temp in the smoker on the RF remote?  My remote is showing the meat probe temp, but not the box temp.  I haven't seen any discussion about what the remote is supposed to display, so I can't tell if mine is working right or not.

When you press the meat probe button on the remote it'll flash the meat probe temp, then the smoker set temp, then the smoker temp and flash back and forth between the set and actual temp for several seconds before clearing.

Ok, that makes sense.  Yesterday, the actual temp was showing something way off, say around 20 degrees instead of 250 degrees.  Right now, I'm smoking some chicken wings and I think it's working as you said.  Seems that the way that works best is to turn on the smoker, turn on the remote and then set the temp and time on the smoker.  If I set the temp and time from the remote first, it seems that I don't get the correct temp info on the remote.  So, I'll just remember to do it in that sequence from now on.

As long as the batteries are good you should be able to plug in the smoker and do everything else from the remote.  Maybe try different batteries even if the ones you're using are new just to check.  If you continue to have problems and the unit is under two years old MB may send out a new controller/remote set.  If you just got it, MB will certainly make things right.

Thanks,  I'll experiment some more and see if the problem continues.  It's not such a big deal, just a minor issue.
