I've been anxious to get my hands on a smoker for the past couple of years, though with the rate that I was moving around it just wasn't possible. I've managed with a gas grill (yeah, I'm basic), but for the past year I was living in a tiny apartment where grills/smokers/anything scary was prohibited (though I did sneak a blow torch). A week ago I finally moved to a house in north county and could not wait to get my patio set up.

I also discovered some Amazon rewards points that I managed to forget about, so low and behold I was able to order an MES 40 with some bells and whistles I read about on these forums (iGrill probes, AMNS, etc.).

Anywhoo, I live in north county San Diego, where you'd think I could wake up on any given day to the perfect smoking weather. Unfortunately you would be incorrect as this was precisely my plan this morning and when I walked outside to unveil the holy meat shrine I discovered it to be ever so lightly and annoyingly raining

Thanks everyone! I've had the MES for a week now and have fired it up 3 times. Still getting a feel for how the heat is flowing inside the MES but so far everything I've pulled out of there has tasted great. Major room for improvement, but my household will eat anything at the end of the day.

Bear - Thanks for the link!

SmokinAl - Thanks for the eCourse!
