“CASE” Pork Roll Sammies

Mrs Bear found a roll of “Case” Pork Roll, and it followed her home!!

We believe Case is actually better than Taylor, although we like them both.

And if I’m not mistaken, Case is cheaper.

So I cut the roll in half, froze half & kept this half out to be Grilled.

Peeled the cloth bag off, put my 8 little control slices around the circumference, sliced it into Sammy sized slabs, and grilled them up.

The captions below explain it all much better.

Thanks for stopping by,

Bear

Half of a “Case” Pork Roll, after thawing:

Removing from the Bag:

Here’s where I make 8 cuts 1/2” to 3/4” deep around the circumference.
Much easier than making the little cuts on each slice after slicing them!
This will let the slices lay flat on the Grill or Pan, without curling up into cone shaped pieces of meat:

6 for Sammies & 2 small pieces for Bear Snacks!!

Halfway done—Notice the cuts I made are starting to open up:

Ready to remove—Now you can see why I make the 8 cuts in the circumference:

I like a Good amount of Mustard on my Pork Roll Sammies:

First night, American Cheese (Melted):

That looks good Bear! Kinda like a fried bologna sammie, only pork.

I've never seen those around here.

What do they taste like?

Thanks Al !!

Very much like a Bologna sammy, but without the hard skin. Closer to Good PA Dutch Fried Ring Bologna than the Pale Pink Bologna they sell at Delis.

We love them!!

When I was a kid, the only Sammies I'd eat at my hangouts was Cheesesteaks & Pork Roll Sammies.

Oh baby....that is my MOST favorite sandwich. I am a Case fan, but if only Taylor is available, I'll eat it!

Beautiful.....

Everyone knows that I am the Best! Can't go wrong with Case!

Case Sausage, Case Tractors, Case Knife, Case T, all great things!

I was thinking about adding "No Pun Intended", but I left it out.

Al, the flavor is less salty and less sweet but similar to Spam. There is a nice tang to it, it is much firmer than Spam and has a somewhat smokier flavor. Pork Roll, Egg and Cheese on a Hard Roll ( a dense firm Kaiser), is the Official NJ State Sandwich!

Grilled, yellow mustard, cheese, and raw onion is how I like mine.  On a hard roll of course.  The raw onion sells it.
Your location lists Harrisburg but if you know what a Hard Roll is, you must have spent time much farther East. When we moved from NJ to Lancaster County in 90, we went for breakfast our first morning. Without looking at a menu my wife ordered Pork Roll on a Hard Roll. The server looked puzzled and somewhat insulted then said, " What is Pork Roll? " and explained, " At THIS restaurant, we throw the Rolls away when they get Hard." I laughed so hard, I nearly peed myself...JJ

I lived in the Poconos for 6ish years, in the Water Gap, which is one mile from NJ on Route 80.  That is two big things I miss, that and the bagels.  They also had some AMAZING ethnic foods that were opening at a feverish pace, and delis of course.  It was/is an extension of NYC and NJ

Fried Onions Yes---Raw onions No.

Only food not served at the Bear Den.

Mrs Bear doesn't like them, and the Smell makes me sick. Can't eat them unless they're fried.

Two smells make me sick---Raw Onions & Clorox.

Thanks JJ. Ive never seen nor heard of a pork roll either. I was really wondering what they were. Sounds good and I do love fried balogna sammies.

Those look great John. Now that JJ has explained just what a pork roll is, I'm betting they taste delicious too. After all i love spam sammies and i really love fried bologna sammies with mustard. How could I not love these, especially with melted cheese on them.

Thank You Gary!!

Like I said earlier, it tastes more like Fried Ring Bologna than anything else I can think of.

I love Spam too, but I'm glad it doesn't taste like Spam. Mrs Bear loves Pork Roll, but wouldn't eat it if it was anything like Spam.

And Thanks for the Points.

Thanks Jimmy!

Yup, When we make them in a Frying pan We like 2 Thin slices in each Sammy.

But when I make them on the Grill, We like one Thick slice, because 2 Thin slices can dry out on the Grill.
