Can anyone suggest a good beef rib rub?
I was thinking about just salt and pepper or Montreal steak but was worried that could be too salty with the bark to meat ratio (I'm planing on using Montreal steak seasoning for a prime rib roast later this month, because there is so much meat compared to the small amount of bark you get, it shouldn't be too salty)
I'm doing pork ribs and beef ribs and actually use a brisket rub on my pork ribs. When I first started smoking I made a brisket rub then looked at a pork rib rub and they were so similar I didn't bother making it and just used the brisket rub. The ribs turned out great and I've been using it ever since.
I'm not sure why but I don't want to put the same rub on both the pork and beef ribs, I'd like them to be different.
Any suggestions or input?
Thanks

Ok.
Looks like salt and pepper it is then.
If I just use salt and pepper mix them 50/50?
Does anyone have a good salt and pepper based rub? I watch a lot of Malcolm Reed's how to BBQ right videos and he uses an all purpose salt and pepper based pre rub on everything. He's mentioned before it contains 'salt, pepper, granulated garlic, origano and a few other herbs' anyone know any rubs like this and what ratio of each?
(You can purchase his rub but I don't buy rubs, making your own is half the fun)
Thanks guys

I am doing beef ribs this weekend and i am either going to use Montreal or Chicago steak seasoning.for mine. they are available at most stores.

I've had very good results with my rub:
1 cup course pepper
1 cup kosher salt
½ cup Chisholm rub from Pendry's(can order online)
½ cup Lowry's season salt
¼ cup Ancho chili powder (or mix ancho, guajillo & passillo powders) - never used "chili powder"
1/8 cup extremely ground-up coffee (powder like texture)(optional)
