I've been using a cylinder type smoker for several years. Somebody left behing a nearly new Char Broil offset smoker at one of my friends rental homes. He didn't want it and now it's mine. Tried it out last weekend with a rack of baby backs. They were fine but not the best I've ever done. I did do a little research to see what different mods I might want to try . . . then I remembered I had joined this group, so I'm thinking I can get some suggestions as to what mods y'all have tried and which turned out to be worth doing.  I'm using "Charwood" for the first time this weekend. The guy at the hardware store swears by it. I generally use wood and started pre-burning it last year. It really helps keeping the temp consistent. I really like the offset and unless I ever need to smoke more meat than will fit on the Char Broil I doubt if I'll use the cylinder smoker again. Appreciate all the knowledge shared here and I'm especially looking forward to getting better at this. No more 60 hour work weeks for me so lounging next to some smoking meat while watching the garden grow should make for a fine summer.

You are about to have a lot of fun. Offsets have their quirks but I love mine (see my sig). Ask questions and many people will answer.
