While I search for my smoker box, I figured I'd at least order the A MAZE N pellet maze now.

I'm curious if any of you ordered your AMAZEN products from Amazon? Or did you buy direct from AMAZEN?

Shopping is cheaper for me through Amazon, but I don't want to buy some knockoff...

I have bought all mine direct from Todd. I believe that he has free shipping if you order a certain $ amount. I've always got pellets too to take advantage of that. In all my packages there always been a 10% loyal customer discount card too use on my next purchase.

I have always bought direct from Todd too.

And I have Amazon Prime, so I could get free shipping.

I just prefer dealing direct with him.

Appreciate the replies. I'll put an order in tonight.

Any recommendations on what pellets to try for ribs?

I always order all AMAZEN products direct from Todd. He's proven over the years that providing outstanding customer service is his primary concern. If you have a problem with an order or a product you can email AMAZEN directly and Todd, or sometimes Rhonda, will always give you a prompt reply. Amazon also provides great customer service but they're more limited with how they can rectify an issue. You're talking to the source when dealing with Todd. Also, I choose to support small businesses whenever I can. When you buy from Todd, he gets the entire purchase revenue. I think that when you buy from Amazon, they take a percentage of the purchase price from Todd.

And Dave Omak is right. Todd's always got specials. I buy all my wood pellets from him. If you're just starting out, his Pitmaster's Choice blend is excellent. You can go to his website and see what pellets are in the blend. I also recommend the classics: hickory, oak, apple, mesquite, pecan. I also have alder for smoking salmon. Cherry is included in the Pitmaster's Choice but I've read it's a difficult wood pellet to keep lit unless it's mixed with other woods like hickory or oak or other easy/hot burning woods. But truth be told, if someone else was using my smoker and chose wood pellets without telling me what they were, I don't think I could identify the specific wood smoke flavor in a blind tasting. That being said, when I choose wood pellets, for my tastes I've found that I like oak with a beef brisket best. Pork ribs are great with hickory, oak, apple or pecan, in my opinion. With a tri-tip I prefer mesquite to replicate a Santa Maria-style grilled tri-tip roast or steak. Hickory or apple work great with cheeses. For poultry, just about anything works great. Alder is my least favorite wood. Tried it once with cheese and didn't care for the result. I might pair it with some halibut and salmon this year.

I always order direct because I love their customer services and their willingness to always answer my newbie questions.

I buy direct from him!

He does a LOT of great things for us here at SMF and needs our support.  Not to mention he, and ALL of his staff, are great folks to deal with.

Always Direct. I am lucky enough to live by the shop and the folks at Amazen are great! Todd is always looking out for his customers and his customer service is top notch.

I ended up ordering direct! Although, I sent an email with some (admittedly dumb) questions and never heard back!

Maybe he's busy (but it was a week ago).

I was hoping to save on shipping, but I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt!

I order direct also because there frequently is a special running. I have found his products for sale in the ACE Hardware store right up the street from my house. They didn't have all the pellet options, but did sell the AMNPS and the tubes as well.

That's interesting about Todd not getting back to you. Two days ago I emailed him about using the Weber Lighter Cubes with the AMNPS and he emailed back a reply that same day. Did you email Todd through the A-MAZE-N website or directly through your email client like Gmail or Outlook?

I believe it was through the website form.

No worries. I'm sure it was a fluke. Ya'll seem to have good luck with him so I ordered anyways!

It actually all showed up today. Just tossed it on the grill and ran some pellets through it to burn off any crud.

Should be smoking with it Sunday!

Once you've successfully smoked with pellets you never to back to chips. Over time you'll figure out how to get the smoke flavors you want--either light or heavier. Ever since I've been using the AMNPS my smoked meats are never harsh from being over smoked. The most important lesson I ever learned was to not place a hot AMNPS on a plastic resin table. Did you know that the tray will melt right through and fall to the ground? And hardened plastic will coat the AMNPS? But I tell you, sometimes I'm smart but till then I'm pretty stupid. Not only was that a stupid act, but it took me years (after buying a replacement AMNPS from Todd) to figure out that if I took the propane torch I use to light the AMNPS, and used it to soften and melt the plastic adhering to my first AMNPS, I could remove all of it from the tray! So, now I have two AMNPS trays to trade off with. Todd really has them built to last!
