My name is Phillip I live in Texas. I've been smoking for over a year now using a file cabinet that I made into a smoker. It has served me and my family well but it's time to upgrade to a offset smoker. My only problem is it seems all the company's that use to have descent pits old country wrangler and oklahoma joes has traded in to sell thin garbage can smokers. I can't find any smoker under 800 that will stand up more than a year or two from the thin metal they are made of now. Academy sells old country wrangler 2 which after inspection is now thin metal not the 3/16" it used to be. If anyone can direct me to to a reasonably priced pit I would appreciate it

Too bad about the thin stuff. I've been running my offset (see my sig) since 2012 and it has no structural problems yet, just superficial rust because I have let it get too hot for the paint.

I try to keep it out of the weather and I avoid leaving ash in the firebox so as not to retain moisture for rust development.
