Just saying "Hi!"

I'm just a grillin' fool, in West (by god) Virginia.

My neighbors gave me their old smoker (a roughly 20 year old Char-Griller Pro), a few months back, which was in need of some TLC. I did my best to scrape/sand all of the rust away, and hit it with a coat of heat-resistant paint. I've also re-seasoned the cooking grates, and I'm at about the 90% finished with replacing the front and side table/trays. This thing also has a fire tray for the cooking side, so it is usable as a standard grill as well. I've loved this thing so far... and only have maybe $15 in to restoring it, so far.

The only thing that I haven't been able to fix yet is the firebox; the ash-pan is 3/4 rusted away, and the box it's self has a few small pin holes from the years of rusting. I've been placing aluminum foil on the bottom, to catch the ashes [for now], but I'm not really thrilled to be doing that. Unfortunately, Char-Griller doesn't make the ash pan I need anymore, so I'm still fishing around for a good solution.

Anywho.... that's my intro. I'll share some pics of this old thing, and then browse around the site a bit. :)

BEFORE:

Still work to be done to it, as I said, but it's nice to see it brought back to life. :)

Thanks!

I recently got some fresh-cut firewood (cherry and black walnut) with the intention to use it for cooking. I've had a rough time maintaining good 225°+ temperatures with just charcoals and woodchips. I've ended up using a whole 5-7lb bag once (on an albeit wet and windy day), because I was trying to reach & maintain temps.

On another note, I have a cover for it now! :) Now the work I've put into it is protected too.
