I'm new to smoking. Have 3 cooks under my belt which were ok not great. Hopefully I can learn from this forum and maybe I can share great tips on bbq someday. I have the Oklahoma's Joes longhorn. Thats what I can afford at the moment and using it as a stepping stone. I figured I should start basic with a stck burner so I can learn to control my heat. I like how cooking bbq can be relaxing.

Welcome to the board! Stick burners lend themselves well to experimentation. Ask questions here and you'll get plenty of answers, but try using the Sesrch to see if your questions have already come up, with answers.

Welcome!

Stick burners definitely have a learning curve. Everything comes into play, Is it sunny or cloudy? Windy? Different woods burn differently. Most have a hot end and a cooler end. They are generally harder to keep at a lower temp than electric or charcoal, which you will find isn't really all that critical. And of course every smoker has it's own personality :-)

Once you find it's groove, it's very satisfying and yes, relaxing!

Welcome to SMF!

Congrats on the new smoker.

Can't get any better flavor than you get with a stick burner!
