I have had the DOT for a few weeks now and it has been working great. However, last night it gave the no probe message with the probe plugged in. It finally came back on and then the temp started jumping around. After a bit it seemed to be working like normal again. Today I am doing two 4lb Boston Butts. After a couple of hours I inserted the probe away from the bone into the thickest part. The temp keeps jumping around now. It has been bouncing from as low as 100 up to 150. I took the probe out and re-positioned it, but it is still jumping around. Anyone else have this problem?

When I take the probe out of the meat it seems to work fine. It drops to the room temperature and doesn't move. I can't figure out what the problem is.

Is it plugged into the unit tightly?

Try twisting the connection around a little.

Then try it in boiling water to see if it gets to 212.

You may just have a bad probe.

It happens.

Well it started showing the no probe message again. Might have to run to Walmart and grab a cheap instant read to hold me over until I get this figured out. I was going to order a Thermopop anyways so I guess I'll throw another probe on to that order.
