I work part time at an elementary school as a lunch/recess monitor. 3rd,4th, and 5th grades. At the end of each lunch I gave a quick reminder about what this long weekend is for. Had a couple parents come up to me and say that was wonderful.
Have you heard about how they observe the holiday in Europe, even though it isn't an official holiday in any of those countries? They visit our cemeteries with flowers and gratitude.
I never served, but I had two friends who lost older brothers in Vietnam. What was nightly news became reality.
I will never forget that.

As the son of a vet (in a family full of them), I had the meaning of Memorial Day made clear to me from an early age. Some soldiers gave up absolutely everything so that others may live. We love you! [emoji]133674693112[/emoji]
We're a gold star family our son didn't pass in combat but still while he served I'm a desert storm vet my father Vietnam grandfather WWII wives father and brothers also veterans, I say this is a weekend for family and friends pure Americana that's why we serve, so we can live free and enjoy while we remember
Heres to my Pa, Uncle and to anyone else who made the ultimate, also that Red, White and Blue that flies over my grill everyday so that we are always reminded of the people that have made it possible for us to have this freedom. God bless and Godspeed .
