I was shopping at a different store yesterday and while walking through the meat department I spotted a chub of Taylor pork roll. I've heard about them for years but never had the real thing so I picked one up and this morning I cut off a couple slices and fried them up...The amount of salt made it almost impossible for me to eat. I could hardly get any taste of the flavor over the salt burn....Is this really the way they are? or did I just get the bad one?

Definitely NOT for the Low Sodium crowd. For my wife and l, growing up on the stuff it taste like it supposed to. My wife eats it fried crisp and plain on a Hard Roll, aka Kaiser Roll. Me, l'm a porkroll egg and American cheese guy, no added salt needed. Cougar78 is a Cali boy with a Jersey wife. He made a batch and says it is pretty close to the original, salt reduced. On my list to make this summer as it is not available where l live and we miss it...JJ

It's been awhile since I had "Taylor", Dan.

I never noticed Taylor being overly salty, and I just asked Mrs Bear, and she said she doesn't remember it being overly salty.

Since I cut way back on Sodium, it might be too salty for me nowadays.

However I just got some "Case" Pork Roll, and I'm gonna Grill some tonight.

I'll let you know how salty that is.

JJ I made that at the time I did not have the ECA and it was close to the taste without it.

Been eating that on a roll for a few days already this week.

I used to live near a bar that had $1 pints and $1.50 pork roll sandwiches. They had mustard, thick cut pork roll (they cut it there), cheese, and a huge full slice of raw onion on a hard roll. My daily lunch was two pints and a sandwich.  I work from home so it is OK to drink in the middle of the day.  Many business people came in for the same or just one draft.  There were two postal workers that would stop for a pint and sandwich.

If YOU Sir, can vouche for the result of Cougars recipe, Porkroll just went to the top of my to do list after some bacon! I was kind of waiting for a Jersey Boy to try the recipe for authenticity. Thanks...JJ

JJ when you do it I think the ECA is what I was missing plus I didn't load it with salt.

Let us know your findings

Got that for you. I just sent a Recipe to you that I think is the same one Cougar posted.

I got it from a Buddy of mine in Cherry Hill, and he loves it.
