The Weber Style duel temp probe is most likely made by the same people who make the Maverick. It looks the same and works the sam,I have a Weber Syle. Bear might have the answer to this question since he has the most reliable information on the MES gen 2.5 40" I am smoking a 9 pound pork butt and thought I would see how accurate the temps are in the MES using the MES prob in one end and the Weber in the other end I also used a small chunk of wood with a hole drilled through it to hold the othe Weber prob and rest it on the rack close to the pork butt. The MES probe is about 6 degrees off according to the Weber, the Weber reads 80 degrees and the MES reads 86 degrees. The smoker temp as you know fluctuate, on the high end both are close but on the low end they are 10 to 12 degrees off, the Weber is at 217 and the MES is at 230 I have the temp set at 230 to hopefully smoke around 225. Why are the temps so far off on the low end and not so much on the high end?

Randy,

Randy that looks like it is holding the same difference Hi and Low 13* is real close for an MES mine are usually 30* or more off

Richie

Hi Richie and Gary,
Using three different temp probs here is what I ended with going for a 205 inturnal temp the MES was at 207 the Weber was at 206 and my Thermo pen that reads in 3sec or less and comes with a certificate of calibration and is deadly accurate was at 205.
Can't say I like the 10 to 13 degree temp swings but I am impressed with how accurate the probe is in the MES. I have an IQ 130 temp controller on my WSM that doesn't fluctuate more than 1or 2 degrees.
I expected the Weber probe would be accurate and it was only off by one degree

Randy,

I'm one of the lucky ones too. My MES controller is right on the money too.

It's 8 years old & still works like new. And I have it sitting outside in the weather with a cover of course.

Al

Me too Al, my MES sets outside year around with a cover over it and I live in Minnesota where the weather is extreme, sub 0 to the 100's I put a sheet of plastic over the top before I put the factory cover it because the cover leaks. The first year I used thin plastic. Well as I said the weather is extreme and it snowed then God
