For you Paul Bunyan types who have a chain saw and maybe access to a power splitter, I have a deal for you.  A nice size (18-20" dia.) red oak fell across the street a month or so ago in my residential neighborhood.  Street maintenance crews removed the main trunk that was blocking traffic but left the top in someone's wooded lot.  I asked the owner if I could cut some of it and was told to take all I want, otherwise the tree will likely rot where it is.  It's only a foot or two off the edge of the pavement, so access is no problem.  The wood is located in northwest Raleigh so if anyone in the Raleigh/Durham area wants some free wood, it's there for the taking.

I've scrounged the easy pickings (smaller limbs) but haven't really tapped into the bulk of the wood as I'd have to rent a splitter.  I've located several other sources of free wood in the area, so I'm not inclined to spend the $ and effort to get the rest of the tree.  PM me if you're interested and I'll show you where the tree is.
