My wife gave my a LEM 8.5" slicer (model 1164) for Christmas.
I've tried it three times now: salami, roast beef, pork loin for jerky. The performance is problematic at best and nearly unusable.
I have two issues with it:
(1) the height of the sliding feed table isn't adjustable. This causes problems with smaller items as the food is contacting the blade nearly parallel to the edge of the blade versus perpendicular. (see picture below) This also results in the portion of the food at the lowest point not being cleanly sliced.
(2) the food support (back plate) is not stiff at all. This means varying thicknesses depending on how firmly you are pushing the food being cut.
Anyone else have this model? If so, do you have any mods that make this usable? Suggestions on how to get the most out of it?
Or should I just give it away and buy a decent model?
