Greetings !
Thanks for the opportunity to learn from such an experienced crew of smokers and grillers. I enjoy brining/smoking all kinds of meat -- mostly pork tenderloin, pork roast, chicken, sausage, ribs and brisket. I most always have used Weber wood chips (Apple, Cherry, Alder, Hickory and Mesquite) soaking them for 15 minutes before smoking.
I had an MES I purchased from Home Depot that worked like a champion for three-years and then died a slow death -- I replaced two thermometer heating cables and two heating elements. I have always found MES customer service to be outstanding and responsive. I finally put the old dear out on my parkway for the scrap iron man after I just couldn't get another decent smoke.
Easiest option for me is to replace with another MES from Home Depot. I thought I would check with this forum and all of you amazing and experienced smokers for a recommendation on a replacement smoker. I have looked at a few of the MES models and their propane double-door too. I am okay with basic and simple -- not super interested in the bluetooth features etc ... I saw some excellent mod recommendations for the MES dual door propane model (lava rocks, water pan, cast iron pan for wood chips). I read some very informative reviews on this model on this site -- I think they are currently at 83% positive.
Thanks in advance for feedback and advice.
