It's true I've been stalking this forum for a while trying to get ideas on making a smoker for my home. I had a nice sized true commercial freezer dropped off at my house yesterday to start my dream project. I thought I had it all figured out (so to speak) I've gotten the majority of everything I could get off, off. I went to take the inner liner out to start removing the insulation, and well that's where I'm stuck..... I cannot find a way to get to the insulation without either ripping out the interior cabinet, or cutting the back or bottom or top open. I don't see any screws to get the top off or a bottom panel..... what am I missing???? I appreciate the advice!!!! I'll try to add a pic so you can see what I have.....

Glad to have someone else here with me at the frustration station! To be honest I have no idea how this thing was constructed in this first place. I changed me design so that I didn't need to keep the interior shell.

Can't give any definitive advice as I've never worked on one, but I think you may be in a bit of a pickle with this.  If I remember correctly from others that I've seen the liner may be glued in place on the insulation.  Big project to remove.  Wish you the best of luck, hope it isn't that bad...

Actually getting the foam out hasn't been bad at all. Been using a mild wire brush in a modified car buffer. Eats right through the stuff and doesn't damage the metal. Have to dress like I'm working a biohazard scene but that's alright by me! The worst part is actually getting the metal out.... nothing to pry against.... I have adopted a method of using a saws all to start into the foam, then I roll the metal as I cut the foam and free more metal. Same thing as trimming fat from chicken meat! It's slow but relatively easy going.

Hi, I just found a T-23 true freezer. I am doing exactly what you did. Peeling the metal, getting rid of foam
Omg, Its a bitch. Any more pics? Or updates?

This thing has been a pain in the ass for sure! Sadly I haven't worked on it too much due to the heat and humidity, it destroys my blood sugar levels. But I'm still cutting foam out myself, luckily my friend lent me a multi tool and it makes removing foam quite easy and quick and not to mention clean! I've mostly just been acquiring build materials, like new insulation and parts to regain structural stability!

I just noticed too that you are from the Bay Area! Concord specifically, I'm originally from Livermore myself but when I was married to my ex we lived in concord for a bit, right on bonafacio st, across from the hospital! Small world eh?
