New to the smoking world. First couple of smokes this past weekend. Picked up a 5lb top round. Looking to try to smoke it and cut it up for sammies this weekend. Anyone got a good recipe/ marinade. I saw Chef Jimmy's Au Jus recipe and I am definitely going to try that. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks all.

Hey Cpark, welcome to SMF!  Glad you are here and opening with a question.  Be sure to stop in over at Roll Call to say "hi" so the friendly folks can give you a proper welcome.

Top round is a lean cut of beef.  Personally I like a rub of 2 parts Salt, 2 parts Pepper, 1 part Onion Powder, and 1 part Garlic Powder.  Spray with oil, apply the rub, then smoke at 225F until the internal temp of the meat is 130-135F.  Let it rest covered for an hour, then slice thin for sandwiches. I only slice what I need.

It's great the next day too after a snooze overnight in the refrigerator.

Thanks. Do you recommend another cut to use or will this work pretty well? I'm pretty new to this. I'm just looking to make some good sammies.

Top round, bottom round, cross rib, and tri tip are my favorites roasts for roast beef.

You can use the search feature of the forum for "roast beef" and see what other folks are using.
